Redrawn Anoka County Districts Leave Fridley's Commissioner in Place

Jim Kordiak, the Anoka County commissioner representing most of Fridley, is the only incumbent board member who won't have to run for re-election this year. Instead, Kordiak will finish his term as scheduled in 2014. 

That's because the population of District 4 (including Columbia Heights, Hilltop, part of Spring Lake Park and all but the northwest corner of Fridley) didn't change by more than 5 percent, according to ABC Newspapers. 

District 5, taking in that northwestern corner of Fridley and represented by Carol Ledoux, is one of two districts where voters will elect a commissioner this fall for a shorter term of two years, the Star Tribune reported, so board members will have staggered terms. 

Earlier this year, state legislative and congressional redistricting left Fridley united, with representation by single members of the state House and Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives. The city of Fridley's own internal political boundaries remained the same.
