READ: 49er Days Seeks Business Sponsors

Fridley's summer festival costs nearly $20,000 to put on.

The 49er Days Festival Committee is asking businesses to help pay for the summetime community event by sponsoring an activity or making a donation.

The free, three-day festival needs sponsorships in order to cover expenses of nearly $20,000, as described in the committee's letter to local businesses (see PDF):

The cost of bands for the free street dances during the festival is typically around $6,000, and fireworks are also around $6,000.  Other expenses include $3,000 for insurance, $1,500 for rental of facilities, and about $3,000 for miscellaneous expenses.

Donations help "promote community spirit and old-fashioned family fun," the letter goes on to say.

In 2012, the 49er Days festival will move to Moon Plaza, a higher-visibility location than Commons Park.
