How Anoka County Helped Start Santorum's Surge

Republicans here gave half their support to Santorum.

All eyes are on the primary battle in Michigan, where Rick Santorum is threatening to spoil the day for Mitt Romney in his birth-state. 

Locals can take some credit in helping him along. 

Santorum's recent surge started with his simultaneous wins in Minnesota, Missouri and Colorado on Feb. 7.

Anoka County played a role in boosting Santorum—hia support was even greater here than statewide.

Statewide, Santorum had 21,988 votes for 45 percent. Ron Paul had 13,282 votes for 27 percent. Romney had 8,240 votes for 17 percent. And Newt Gingrich had 5,263 votes for 11 percent.
