Final Voter-Turnout Tallies: Fridley 79%, MN 76%

Statewide figure relies on estimate of total eligible voters. Anoka County calculates turnout by comparing existing voter rolls and new registrants with ballots cast.

Voters in Fridley turned out for the Nov. 6, 2012, election at a slightly higher rate than did voters statewide in Minnesota, according to the Anoka County Elections Office and the Minnesota Secretary of State.

Turnout in Fridley was 78.60 percent by the county's method of computation. In Minnesota, the Secretary of State's different way of counting turnout put the statewide turnout figure at 76.11 percent.

That's the highest voter-turnout rate of any state in the country.

The Secretary of State uses an expert's estimate of the total number of eligible voters in Minnesota: 3,876,752. The official number of ballots cast in Minnesota, certified Wednesday by the State Canvassing Board, is 2,950,780.

That statewide total includes 267,464 absentee ballots and ballots from 527,867 voters who registered to vote on Election Day.

Anoka County computes turnout by dividing the total number of ballots cast by the number of previously registered and newly registered voters.
