Capitol Review: Goodwin, Bernardy Sign on to Early Bills

Fridley's delegation at the MN Legislature got busy in the opening days of the session.

Here is some of what Fridley's delegation was up to during the first week of the Minnesota Legislature's session, which began Jan. 8, 2013:

Minnesota Senate
Sen. Barb Goodwin, who represents Fridley, introduced four bills as co-author, and one resolution:

S.F. No. 2A bill for an act relating to education finance; authorizing funding for voluntary, full-day kindergarten; amending Minnesota Statutes 2012, sections 123B.41, subdivision 7; 126C.05, subdivisions 1, 15; 126C.12, subdivision 5. Referred to the Committee on Finance.

S.F. No. 3A bill for an act relating to employment; regulating the minimum wage; amending Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 177.24, subdivision 1. Referred to the Committee on Jobs, Agriculture and Rural Development.

S.F. No. 7: A bill relating to protected persons; guardians and conservators; modifying provisions related to the appointment of guardians and conservators; increasing background study fee; modifying contents of annual reports made by guardians and conservators;amending Minnesota Statutes 2012, sections 245C.32, subdivision 2; 524.5-118, subdivision 1, by adding a subdivision; 524.5-303; 524.5-316; 524.5-403; 524.5-420. Referred to Committee on the Judiciary.

S.F. No. 24: A bill relating to capital investment; appropriating money for the Springbrook Nature Center; authorizing the sale and issuance of state bonds. Referred to the Committee on Finance.

S.R. No. 10: A resolution congratulating the Totino-Grace High School boys football team on winning the 2012 State High School Class AAAAA boys football championship. Referred to the Committee on Rules and Administration.

Minnesota House of Representatives

Rep. Connie Bernardy, who represents Fridley, was co-author for one bill:

H.F. No. 5: A bill relating to commerce; establishing the Minnesota Insurance Marketplace; prescribing its powers and duties; providing for legislative appointments; appropriating money;amending Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 13.7191, by adding a subdivision; proposing coding for new law as Minnesota Statutes, chapter 62V. Referred to Commerce and Consumer Protection Finance and Policy.

Past Fridley-area Legislators
Former Sen. Pam Wolf's bill to require crossing-arms on new school buses became law on Jan. 1 and was the subject of a Patch Local Voices blog post by Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Jacalyn Sticha.

Former Sen. Don Boetzold appeared on KSTP-TV's At Issue public affairs program Sunday morning.

Gov. Mark Dayton appointed former Rep. Kate Knuth to a two-year term as commissioner on the Minnesota Environmental Quality Board. (That evening, Knuth found time to tweet a photo of a snow walrus in New Brighton.)
