Woman Flees From Menards After Failing to Return Stolen Property

A woman escaped Menards security and police after she tried to return suspected stolen property.

Security at Menards, 5351 Central Ave., reported a woman had tried to return property thought to be stolen on Aug. 5.

When the store employees refused to return the property and her alleged fake identification, she left.

An investigation is pending.

Aug. 4:
A woman called police to say her ex has been calling her at work all morning, which was a violation of an order for protection. She also said he had been sending messages on Facebook to her daughter’s friends.

Police were called to Pawn America, 789 53rd Ave., N.E. because there was a young child sleeping alone in the vehicle and it was a hot day. The child was OK and the mother was spoken to but not charged. The case was sent to the Hennepin County Child Protection Agency.

While at Wal-Mart, 8450 University Ave., a woman reported she was distracted by a male and "then the next thing she knew her wallet was missing out of her purse." She had a possible suspect description.

Aug. 5:
A father said he wanted his son removed from their home in the 5700 block of Polk Street because of "his drug use and past abusive behavior." Officers told the man about unlawful detainers and no harassment orders.

An assault was reported in the 100 block of 83rd Avenue between a 6—year-old victim and a 4-year-old aggressor. The older child had cuts on his head but no charges were filed.

Police received a 911 call from the 5600 block of Matterhorn Drive but the caller had hung up. A man there told police a child had accidentally called 911 and hung up the phone and there were no problems.
