Two Home Alone Kids Escaped Danube Road Fire

The Fridley children heard popping sounds coming from their garage.

Two children, ages 12 and 17, were home alone during and escaped safely after hearing popping sounds coming from the garage, WCCO reported.

The fire started shortly before 10:30 p.m. and multiple area fire departments responded to the blaze, containing it within about 40 minutes.

The children were in the basement when they first heard sounds from the fire, and the flames eventually engulfed and destroyed more than half of the two-story home.

The children's parents were out of town but returned late Sunday night.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
