Thief Goes Green, Swipes Solar Lights: Fridley Police Blotter

The incident occurred during daylight hours.

A thief made off with several solar-powered lights during broad daylight on June 1 from a yard in the 300 block of Hugo Street NE. The lights have a value of $4 each.

  • Officers responded to a report of an underage drinking party in the 6500 block of Channel Road NE on May 29, resulting in citations for several minors and two adults.
  • Police arrested both parties in a May 29 domestic assault call in the 700 block of Mississippi Street NE.
  • Someone smeared food on the door of an apartment in the 100 block of 83rd Avenue NE on May 29.
  • Dispatchers discovered using GPS technology that a caller requesting removal of an unwanted party was lying. 
  • A customer who pre-paid for gas May 30 with a counterfeit $20 bill at Holiday, 200 57th Avenue NE, said he got the bill in change at another business in Columbia Heights.
  • Police arrested and took to jail a male reported to have struck two people in the 5700 block of Central Avenue NE on May 30.
  • Someone broke into a Pioneer Press newspaper kiosk at Wendy's, 7601 Hwy. 65 NE, on May 31, according to a report from a delivery driver.
  • Security from UPS advised police on May 31 that they had delivered 18 packages to an address in the 1200 block of Cheri Lane NE since May 21 and regarded it as suspicious.
  • Police arrested two female suspects and took them to jail after a physical fight reported in the 300 block of Osborne Road NE on May 31.
  • Police shot a deer to end its suffering after an accident with a vehicle at University and 49th avenues NE on May 31.
  • Residents reported a male taking cans from curbside recycling bins at Washington Street and 67th Avenue NE on June 2. An officer found the male and told him to stop and to leave the area. The male said he had no vehicle but walked away from a car registered to him.
  • Police learned June 2 that a vacant home in the 1100 block of Hathaway Lane NE had copper pipes cut and stolen sometime over the previous weekend. 
  • An officer responding June 2 to a report of a strange animal in a front yard in the 6000 block of Third Street NE found children had cornered a mole by an air conditioner. The officer advised the children to leave the yard and leave the mole alone.
  • Two officers brought a couch to Public Works for disposal after someone dumped it illegally in the 6900 block of East River Road on June 2.


In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation, and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Incidents generally appear in the order in which they were reported, not necessarily the order in which they occurred.
