Thief Makes Off with Infant Formula-Fridley Police Report

An unidentified male assailant recently walked off with several bottles of infant formula from the Fridley Walmart, then came back to try it again before employees deterred him. 
That was one of the more unusual calls that Fridley Police logged during the week of July 25 to 31. 
Another unusual call: A Fridley resident filed a missing person's report only to find out from police that the missing person was in the County jail for DWI. 
Here is a rundown of the Fridley Police Department's more notable calls for the week:  
July 25

Theft-A City of Fridley pedestrian sign was removed from the crosswalk on 73rd Avenue and Jackson Street.
Counterfeiting-  A business reported a female suspect used counterfeit bills to pay for merchandise. The incident occurred earlier in July  and security employees identified the suspect after she was arrested for a similar incident in Faribault. Police forwarded the report to its investigative unit for possible charges. 

July 26

Disturbing the public peace-At the 5900 block of 2 1/2 Street.  Fridley police responded to anonymous report of a fight. Officers learned one female was assaulted by another female; however the victim did not wish to pursue criminal charges.

July 27

Theft of services- Police were dispatched to 550 Osborne Ave. on a report of a male not paying his taxi fare. Police located the suspect. 

Theft-At the Walmart, 8450 University Ave. NE,  Fridley police officer took a report of a male taking numerous containers of infant formula on one occasion;then was deterred when he attempted it again.
Police said that store employees did not identify the individual. 

Theft-Police were dispatched to the Sam's Auto Parts, 1240 73 1/2 Ave. NE, on a report that some unknown suspects had dug a trench under a fence around the property. A scooter and a transmission were stolen.
Police wrote up and completed a vehicle theft report. The scooter was later recovered and a suspect identified. 

July 28

Damage to property/theft-  Police were dispatched to the Springbrook Nature Center, 100 85th Ave. NE.,  on a report of damage to and theft from a vehicle. "Upon arrival, saw that the rear passenger window was shattered and a purse was taken," police said. "Later received call from victim stating her cards have been used within the Fridley City limits. Investigation pending." 
 
July 29

Assisting neighboring police department- Fridley officer responded to 8100 block of University NE in Spring Lake Park to assist that city's police department on an aggravated robbery report. Two people were arrested.

July 30

Pawning property- Police reported a man was was cited for five counts of pawning the property of another after he made several trips to Pawn America and sold his father's property (stolen from Coon Rapids). "The man is rumored to be homeless, so a warrant may ultimately need to be issued for him," police said.

July 31

Solicitations from the roadway-  A police officer  responded to check the welfare of a male in a wheelchair. The officer learned the man was panhandling at the corner of Central Avenue NE and I-694.  "He was warned about the behavior. He apologized and left voluntarily."  

Missing person was found- Fridley officer was dispatched to an apartment at the 5700 block of East River Road on a report of a missing person. "I found that the missing person was in custody for DWI at ACSO (Anoka County Sheriff's Office)," the officer said. "I advised the complainant."
