Update (10 a.m., Tuesday): Minnesota State Patrol spokesman Lt. Eric Roeske confirmed the incident and gave these details:
A passenger fled from the stop, the trooper did not pursue him since there were other passengers in the vehicle. He was later arrested and booked into Hennepin County Jail.
Jail records indicate the man was booked on two charges: fleeing the Minnesota State Patrol and obstructing the legal process. He was released from jail at 7:39 p.m. Tuesday on $50 bail.
Roeske said the incident didn't come up earlier due to a software problem.
Update (7:30 a.m., Tuesday): A State Patrol spokesman responded Monday afternoon that he couldn't find a record of this incident in Fridley at 10:30 a.m. Monday. I asked him to re-check his logs with the location that Fridley police gave (I-694 and Main Street NE) rather than the earlier reported one (I-694 and University Avenue NE).

Update (1:36 p.m., Monday): The Fridley Police Department confirmed that they were involved in a search for a suspect this morning. In an email, Lt. Mike Monsrud said:
Fridley Police did assist the State Patrol in looking for a male who ran from a traffic stop near 694 and Main St. Fridley Police did not take anyone into custody.
Jeff Denny, service manager at ., 5311 University Ave. NE, said he saw about 10 squad cars and 15 officers from the Minnesota State Patrol, and the Fridley and New Brighton police.
Denny said police suspected that the male they were after might have cut across the business' property, so they checked "closets and doors and bathrooms" but didn't find anyone there.

Original post (12:36 p.m., Monday): Sirens sounded and squad cars descended on the area around I-694 and University Avenue NE in Fridley Monday morning, according to witness accounts.
The police activity may have been related to a report from Twin Cities Incident Patrol that a suspect had fled on foot from a State Patrol traffic stop on I-694 at about 10:26 a.m.
One eyewitness contacted Fridley Patch to say she saw "tons of squads that came from all over" to 53rd and University avenues NE—both State Patrol and Fridley Police.
Another said she heard sirens on 694 from the parking lot.
At 11 p.m., State Patrol and Fridley Police vehicles continued to drive with flashing lights on streets in the area.
Look for updates to this post when the Minnesota State Patrol and Fridley Police Department return messages inquiring about the activity.
