'Just Take Me to Jail,' She Said: Fridley Police Blotter

Her suggestion turned out to be a good one.

On May 6, Fridley Police dispatched an officer to the 5700 block of University Avenue NE, where a female was holding her stomach. She was intoxicated and very uncooperative. "Just take me to jail," she said. It turned out that indeed she had a felony warrant for assault in Hennepin County, so she got taken to jail.

  • Someone caused $300 of damage by smashing the driver's side front window of a vehicle in the 7300 block of Lyric Lane NE, but nothing was missing.
  • Someone took stereo equipment from a vehicle in the 7300 block of Melody Drive NE and also damaged the ignition by using a sharpened key to try to start it.
  • A complainant said a friend damaged her parents car by jumping on it in a playful manner and now refuses to pay for the damage.
  • An officer brought an abandoned BMX-type bicycle from the edge of the road in the 800 block of Mississippi Street NE to police department storage. 
  • A male reported that his wife's boyfriend assaulted him.
  • Loss prevention staff at Target, 755 53rd Ave. NE, arrested a female for shoplifting a Hoover vacuum theater. After she was handcuffed and searched, a Fridley Police officer found she was free of warrants, gave her a citation and released her. 
  • Police could not find a small Shih Tzu-type dog that was reported running loose in the 6300 block of Central Avenue NE.
  • After a complaint, police asked dumpster-divers outside the Subway restaurant at 1029 E. Moore Lake Dr. NE, to leave and they complied.
  • A random license-plate check in the 1000 block of E. Moore Lake Drive showed a warrant for the vehicle's owner, who wasn't in the vehicle but a passenger had a felony warrant and a misdemeanor warrant so police arrested him and took him to jail.

May 6:

  • Police took a Shih Tzu dog found in the 6600 block of Central Avenue NE to New Brighton Vet Clinic.
  • Police received a report of theft of outgoing mail from a residential mail box in the 600 block of Fairmont Street NE.
  • A park user reported a camp site at Locke Park, 450 71st Ave. NE. An officer found it unoccupied and passed the information along to night-shift officers to check.
  • A caller reported tools stolen from his garage in the 1600 block of 68th Avenue NE.
  • A baseball umpire reported losing his wallet either before or after officiating a baseball game.
