Hit-and-walk? 2 Drivers Walk Away from Crash—But One Walked Home

Car knocked over truck on Highway 65 and 73rd Avenue in Fridley, police said.

Update (4:15 p.m. Monday): Both drivers involved in a crash on Highway 65 Monday walked away from the scene of what Fridley police called a "pretty serious accident."

The problem, according to authorities: One of the drivers walked home.

Fridley police arrested the male driver of a car that they say drove east out of the manufactured-home park about 11:30 a.m. Monday—right into the path of a truck heading south on 65.

The collision sent the larger vehicle tumbling on the highway. Early reports that the truck was on fire may have been accurate, said Fridley Police Capt. Brian Weierke—but if so, it quickly burned itself out. (The truck was not on fire when police arrived.)

The car's driver left the scene on foot, Weierke said, returning  to his manufactured home at Fridley Terrace. A neighbor convinced him to go back to the crash scene, and the pair walked back to the highway—where police arrested the car's driver on suspicion of hit-and-run, driving without a valid license, and driving without proof of insurance.

Original post (3:30 p.m. Monday): Fridley Police Capt. Brian Weierke called a crash shortly before noon Monday "a pretty serious accident."

It happened in the southbound lanes of Highway 65 near 73rd Avenue NE in Fridley.

Weierke was gathering details from officers who were at the scene early Monday afternoon; check back at Fridley Patch for an update.
