Man Dies After Accidental Electrocution

A 51-year-old Inver Grove Heights man died on Monday, Aug, 15 after he was electrocuted while doing siding work on the South Fridley Apartments complex.

A 51-year-old Inver Grove Heights man died from electrocution injuries he got while working on a building in the 1100 block of 52nd Avenue on Monday, Aug. 15.

Capt. Brian Weierke said the man was a contractor doing siding work on the South Fridley Apartments near LiveInn Suites when something went wrong.

The Fridley Police Department was called to the scene at 2:19 p.m. When officers got there, they found the man had been electrocuted while working on the upper area of the building.

First responders tried to help the victim who was transported to Unity Hospital in critical condition but he later died. Police and fire departments from Columbia Heights and Fridley as well as Allina were all at the scene.

A Fridley Police officer was injured while trying to save the victim. The police officer was transported to Unity Hospital where he was treated and released.

The accident remains under investigation of the Fridley Police Department, Anoka County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and OSHA. The investigation includes how the man was hit with the wire, where the wire came from and what went wrong with the security of the line.
