Couple Made Girl Run in Public with Diaper, Police Say

Fridley police: Mother and boyfriend also shaved girl's head.

A mother and her boyfriend shaved her daughter's hair, put a diaper on her  and made her down the street as punishment for bad grades at school Monday—all before a crowd of about 50 people, according to Fridley police and the St. Paul Pioneer Press.*

The woman and man remain in Anoka County Jail Tuesday after police arrested them at the Rice Creek Townhomes in the 1600 block of 68th Avenue NE on suspicion of malicious punishment of a child.

Fridley Police Lt. Mike Monsrud said he expects prosecutors to file charges as early as 9 a.m. Wednesday.

"It was a very strange thing," Monsrud said. Even as police took them away in the back of a squad car the couple was joking and laughing about the situation, he said—apparently finding it hard to believe police would find fault with their method of punishment.

A neighbor reported the incident, which Monsrud said lasted about half an hour.

*Correction: An earlier version of this story stated incorrectly in the headline and lead sentence that authorities said the diaper was on the girl's head.
