In a statement Tuesday, the Anoka County Attorney's office gave this account:
Pierre Tyshuan Henderson, 20, Brooklyn Park, was sentenced today by Anoka County District Court Judge James Cunningham to 60 months for assaulting two people with a gun and shooting one of them at the Hi Way House Motel in Spring Lake Park on August 19, 2011. Henderson pleaded guilty to 2nd degree assault on April 9, 2012.
Police responded to the motel after witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots. Two men and a woman reported hearing a knock on the motel door, and upon opening it, were confronted by three men, one of whom was Henderson. The victims reported that Henderson remained outside while his accomplices entered the room and one had a gun. The woman, who has a child with Henderson, said she heard Henderson say, “smoke” them and “blaze” them. The men then threatened the occupants at gunpoint, and then one of the men shot several times and wounded one of the occupants in the stomach. Henderson and the other two men then fled the area. The shooting victim survived. Henderson was caught about a week later.
“A bad combination of jealousy, guns, and tempers led to a dangerous situation where someone was almost killed. Prison now is a result of that situation.,” stated Tony Palumbo, Anoka County Attorney.
