In Columbia Heights, 1 Dead as Police Pursuit Ends at Hart Lake

Suspect missed curve, was ejected from car, reports say.

One person died early Tuesday morning following a brief police pursuit in Columbia Heights that ended with a crash at Hart Lake, according to KARE 11. 

It started at 12:42 a.m. when a Columbia Height police officer gave chase to a reckless driver who didn't pull over, KARE 11 reported.

After four or five blocks, the suspect missed the curve at Arthur Street NE and Hart Lake Boulevard, according to the report, plunging the vehicle down a ravine and ejecting the driver, who died.

Anoka County Emergency Dispatch radio channel crackled as responders from a variety of agencies responded in squad cars, fire vehicles, rescue boats and a helicopter, checking Hart Lake for any others who might have been in the suspect's vehicle.

Fox 9 has video of the ladder truck positioned at the site where the car left the road. WCCO-TV has a variety of shots, including the arrow signs marking the curve that police say the driver missed.
