Fridley Set for 100 Night to Unite Parties Aug. 2

You can still sign up your block through Friday.

Fridley has so many Night to Unite block parties that—try as they might—city officials, police officers and firefighters can't get to them all.

"We have an enormous amount of parties," Fridley Police Special Projects Coordinator Myra Harris said Monday during a presentation to the Fridley City Council. Usually there are more than 100 parties in Fridley, she said.

At the meeting, Mayor Scott Lund calling on all Fridley citizens to join the Fridley Police Department in supporting Night to Unite.

Sign up by Friday for Aug. 2 Event
The annual event is set for next Tuesday, Aug. 2, and there is still time to sign up your block. Harris said she is taking signups at police headquarters through the end of the business day Friday.

Then on Monday, block captains or party organizers can pick up supplies at police headquarters for their parties on Tuesday evening. Among the supplies are trinkets for giving away from event sponsor Target. Another sponsor is Bob's Produce, supplier of peaches to the parties.

Night to Unite is an annual event meant to bring neighbors together to enjoy food, have fun and share crime-prevention ideas. For police, Harris said, it's a chance to see the "96 percent" of citizens who haven't had problems requiring their services.

"People don't dial 911 when they're having a good day," she said.

Blocks that don't get a Night to Unite visit from police officers or firefighters should let Harris know, she said, so they can be sure to get a visit next year.
