Fridley's 'Jane Doe' Found Unfit for Trial: Star Tribune

She'll return to state hospital in hopes she becomes mentally competent to answer charges in court, the newspaper reported.

The woman who wants to be called Jane Doe but who authorities say is Tammy Anquinette Thomas is not mentally compentent to stand trial.

That ruling became public at a court hearing Wednesday in Anoka, where the defendant returned to jail Monday after nearly two months at the Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter, the Star Tribune reported

Reasons for the determination of incompetency weren't clear but the woman will be ordered back to St. Peter under a civil commitment on Friday, the newspaper said.

According to the Star Tribune report, defense attorney Jennifer Pradt said:

The formal diagnosis does give significant insight into her. ... And there is significant history to back up the diagnosis. ... We know more about Ms. Doe. ... She may not have control over what she's doing.

Prosecutors have charged her with crimes related to camping out at a vacant home in Fridley last summer, driving a stolen car across Wisconsin, engaging in identity theft and scratching a jailer. A judge also found her in contempt of court for refusing to give her name.

For weeks after her arrest she refused to cooperate with jail booking procedures such as giving her name and standing for a booking photo–setting an Anoka County Jail record for the length of her stay in a holding cell.
