(UPDATED) Fridley Cub Foods TCF Bank Robber Wore Suit, Goatee

Suspect showed handgun, possibly fake goatee; police seeking tracker device along I-94.

On July 20, 2012, at approximately 11:45 am, a lone, black male entered a TCF Bank located inside the Cub Foods Store at 256 57th Avenue NE, Fridley, Minnesota.  The robber approached the teller counter, gave the victim teller a bag, and brandished a handgun.  After obtaining an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency, the robber fled from the bank on foot.

The robber was described as a black male with a light complexion, who was approximately 6’ to 6’1” in height and weighing approximately 200 to 215 lbs. The robber was also described as wearing a dark business suit, a white shirt, and a tan “driving cap.”

The FBI description does not include a goatee that early law-enforcement reports over Anoka County Emergency Dispatch radio suggested might have been fake.

Update (2 p.m. Friday): The TCF Bank at Cub Foods is shuttered and taped off as a crime scene this afternoon after what police said was a bank robbery shortly before noon.

Law enforcement personnel dusted for fingerprints at the bank at about 1 p.m. Genevieve Hansen photographed the scene at the bank, where metal gates were shut and draped with police tape. (See photos.)

Update (12:45 p.m. Friday): Here is the suspect vehicle description in the robbery police say took place at the TCF Bank at Cub Foods in Fridley late Friday morning:

Mid-2000s model, white Buick four-door, with a grey right (passenger side) rear quarter panel. Suspect is only occupant.

Authorities are looking for the tracker device giving a signal from an inside (left) lane of I-94 near 57th Street in Brooklyn Center. MnDOT traffic cameras are scanning the scene to find a packet of bills that has the tracker embedded inside. (See camera screengrabs.)

If the tracker has become separated from the bills, police are seeking a computer chip about the size of a thumbnail, according to reports on Anoka County Emergency Dispatch.

Original post (12:15 p.m. Friday): A male suspect with a handgun robbed the TCF Bank at the Cub Foods store in Fridley late Friday morning, according to reports on Anoka County Emergency Dispatch radio and the Fridley Police Department.

Early reports of the incident began at about 11:45 a.m. Friday. Police are seeking a suspect and a suspect vehicle. There is no description of the suspect vehicle. The suspect description is:

Black male, approx 6 feet tall, weariung black dark suit jacket, glasses. Has goatee that is greying and noticeable face makeup, so may not be real goatee. It was a black handgun he presented in his right hand.

A tracker device may be helping police locate the suspect, the vehicle or evidence associated with the incident.
