Fridley Police Blotter: Struggle with Power-Steering Hose Creates Disturbance

What sounded like a fight turned out to be a case of man versus machine.

The following items are taken from the Fridley Police Department.

Feb. 18:

  • An officer dispatched to the 100 block of 83rd Avenue NE for a possible fight between two males inside a garage discovered instead one male trying to fix a stubborn power-steering hose. The officer told him to keep the noise down.
  • Two residents in the area of the 100 block of Talmadge Way NE reported that someone went through vehicles parked in their driveways but didn't steal anything.
  • A complainant in the 7400 block of Tempo Terrace NE received a phone call from a male claiming to be from Price Waterhouse who said the complainant needed to send financial information to claim a prize of several thousand dollars.
  • A complainant reported a suspicious male talking to two girls at a store on 53rd Avenue.
  • Police picked up an abandoned bicycle in the 6200 block of Rainbow Drive NE.
  • A male trying to get into a vehicle using a coat hanger in the parking lot of Wal-Mart on University Avenue NE turned out to be a friend of the vehicle's owner attempting to get the doors unlocked to avoid locksmith charges. 
  • A male had fled by the time police arrived at a location on Main Street to check for a possible violation of a restraining order. 
  • Someone abandoned a vehicle in the 7400 block of West Circle NE. 
  • A student brought a folding knife to Fridley Middle School.
  • Police served a trespass notice on a male banning him from Fridley School District properties.
  • An adult male who overdosed on heroin in the 5800 block of E. River Road was taken to the hospital and charged with posession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Police arrested eight people on felony drug charges after three law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant in the 5600 block of Polk Street NE and found methamphetamines. Police apprehended three people who tried to flee by jumping off a third-floor balcony.
  • A caller reported that someone stole the tires and rims off a vehicle in the parking lot of Autos Online, 5649 University Ave. NE.
  • A student brought two kitchen knives to Fridley Middle School, placing them in the snow to pick up later as protection against someone he believed was watching him.
  • Police arrested a male for theft at the Target store on 53rd Avenue NE and took him to jail.
  • Police arrested and jailed a male for drunk driving after observing him swerve badly near children in a crosswalk in the 6100 block of Carol Drive NE.
  • Police took two kittens from the 6500 block of E. River Road to the Brighton Veterinary Hospital.
  • A complainant said he lost his Social Security card and Green card in the 8400 block of University Avenue NE.
  • An officer arrested a suspect wanted on a Dakota County warrant after observing him inside a residence in the 200 block of 58th Avenue NE. Police reserves took the suspect to jail.
  • An officer arrested a male suspect in a vehicle in the 100 block of 85th Avenue NE on a Hennepin County warrant for misdemeanor theft.
  • An officer could not find suspects in a theft reported at Super America, 5667 University Ave. NE. 

In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation, and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Incidents generally appear in the order in which they were reported, not necessarily the order in which they occurred.
