Peeping Tom Was Probably a Cat: Fridley Police Blotter for Feb. 13–16

Tracks in the snow that prompted a prowler report actually belonged to a small animal, police decided.

This is a selection of police activity for Feb. 13–16 drawn from information provided by the Fridley Police Department.

Feb. 13:

  • A report of someone peeking into windows in the 8000 block of Riverview Terrace NE led police to a different conclusion, based on tracks in the snow that appeared to belong to a small animal, possibly a cat.
  • A cat bite in the 5700 block of Seventh Street NE sent a juvenile victim to Unity Hospital for treatment and left the cat in seven-day quarantine with the owner
  • An officer checked on a woman sleeping in her car outside the Two Stooges bar on University Avenue NE and—after learning that she was waiting for her ex-husband—suggested that she go inside to find him.
  • Two patrons who had been asked to leave G.B. Leighton's Pickle Park bar on University Avenue NE agreed to leave when officers arrived.
  • Traffic signal flashing red in all directions at University Avenue and Osborne Road NE would not reset so officer notified MnDOT.
  • A male trying to sell pornographic DVDs to customers of a business in the 5300 block of University Avenue NE left at the request of management.
  • An officer placed traffic cones around sinkholes at Benjamin Street and Gardena Avenue NE resulting from a recent water-main break.

  • A caller said he left his locker open at LifeTime Fitness on E. Moore Lake Drive while he went to the bathroom and returned to find his wallet and iPhone missing.
  • Police arrested a male suspect on I-694 and took him to jail after a female reported that her boyfriend assaulted her at the LivInn Suites hotel on Central Avenue NE, leaving her with a black eye. 
  • Police arrested and jailed a male who has a history of harassing staff at Stevenson Elementary on E. River Road for driving around a stopped vehicle and through a crossing guard's extended flag.
  • A caller heard music in a house she was watching for her in-laws, but an officer found nothing suspicious and determined the music was probably coming from an alarm clock in the bedroom.
  • Two unknown males are on video stealing the same type of laptop computer on three occasions in recent weeks from the Sam's Club store on University Avenue NE.
  • A burglary at City Collision & Glass on E. River Road was caught on video.
  • K9 Kona helped Blaine police find a suspect in a backyard shed.
  • An officer took a cat with no collar or tags from the 7400 block of Baker Avenue NE to the Brighton Veterinary Clinic.
  • Officers broke up a fight involving a crowbar between two males in a hallway of a building in the 5700 block of E. River Road, taking the aggressor to jail and the victim to the hospital.
  • An officer checked on the welfare of a female reported not to have answered her phone for three days. She appeared in high spirits but didn't have a phone charger.
  • Officers responded to a report of a robbery of a business in the 7200 block of Hwy. 65 by two suspects wearing ski masks and armed with a box cutter.
  • K9 Kona helped Columbia Heights police track a suspect from the site of an armed robbery of a person but the suspect may have boarded a bus.
  • Police cleared clothing from the road in the 1500 block of Mississippi Street NE.

Feb. 15:

  • Police cited a renter and a landlord for disorderly conduct after the renter  went to recoup the landlord's apartment to recoup a damage deposit and they ended up assaulting each other.
  • Police stopped a vehicle similar to one that two juvenile females reported for driving recklessly near their bus stop at 57th Avenue and Fourth Street NE, but determined it wasn't the same vehicle. 
  • Police responding to an anonymous complaint about a driver witnessed a vehicle slowly crash into a wall at 73rd Avenue NE and Hwy. 65. They arrested the driver and took her to jail for driving while intoxicated, driving after her license was revoked, and possessing drug paraphernalia and hypodermic needles. 
  • An officer stood by until a father arrived in the case of an out-of-control kindergartner at Woodcrest Elementary on Osborne Road NE.
  • A male thought he found a gun at Holly Center on University Avenue but it turned out to be a toy gun made of plastic.
  • A juveline male student was charged with fourth-degree arson after he used a match to start a fire in a garbage can in a vacant hallway at Fridley High School, prompting an evacuation. 
  • Police warned a female panhandler at University Avenue NE and I-694 not to solicit contributions from the roadway.
  • Police responding to a complaint about a child being outside without supervision and not dressed for the weather learned that the child's father had been napping when his daughter left without his knowledge.
  • A male was found passed out in a public bathroom for the second time in two weeks due to heroin overdose, this time at the BP station on E. River Road. He went to the hospital for treatment.
  • Police responded to a large amount of water coming up from the street due to a possible water main break in the 5500 block of Fillmore Street NE.

  • An officer who saw a male on the hood of a vehicle that was being driven in a parking lot in the 600 block of Osborne Road NE ended up mediating an altercation between a husband and wife involved in a divorce.
  • K9 partner Kona provided psychological deterrence in the 5000 block of Central Avenue NE while Columbia Heights police took two suspects into custody who Minneapolis Park police wanted for fleeing police. 
  • A caller from the 5600 block of University Avenue NE reported that a male stole 10 packs of cigarettes while a female partner distracted him.
  • Dumpster-divers who drove off in a Jeep left a mess in a parking lot in the 7800 block of Beech Street.
  • A complainant said his dog alerted to something dead in the backyard of a house in the 5500 block of Regis Drive NE but officers found no dead bodies in the yard or nearby ravine.
  • A worker at a group home in the 5900 block of Hackmann Avenue NE told police that on returning to her home she found a dent from someone having punched her car.
  • A complainant in the 5700 block of E. River Road told police a Census Bureau worker has been harassing him by continually contacting him.
