UPDATED (PHOTOS): Fridley, 3 Other Cities Help Columbia Heights Fight House Fire

Original post (9 a.m. Saturday): The Fridley Fire Department and crews from three other cities hurried to Columbia Heights last night to lend assistance at the scene of a house fire Friday night in the 1800 block of 39th Avenue NE, according to scanner reports and Twin Cities Fire Wire.

Ice clung to the west side of the one-story house just north of Hart Lake Saturday morning, with a blackened storage trunk and other posessions from the house strewn in the snowy front yard.

The cause of the fire was an electrical problem, Twin Cities Fire Wire reported, and a neighbor said one occupant of the house went to the hospital with burns.

Twin Cities Fire Wire has photos from the fire, showing flames on the west side of the house, as well as details on how crews fought the fire, which started around 8:30 p.m. Friday:

Firefighters deployed two lines, one through the main entry door on the A-side and one through a basement door on the C-side.

Crews reported heavy fire conditions in the basement with extension to the first floor. ... For close to two hours, crews battled the stubborn fire as it spread through the walls and floors of the home.

New Brighton firefighters used saws to cut open the exterior walls on the D-side where they found pockets of fire.
