Fireside Drive Fence Tagged by Gang Graffiti

Vandalism runs along Park Plaza Co-op's north border.

Fridley police confirmed Tuesday that the Fireside Drive NE fence along the north side of Park Plaza Co-op manufactured home park was tagged with "gang related" graffiti.

Park Plaza Co-op Board President Natividad Seefeld described Monday night reports she had heard of grafitti running "all the way down the street."  In an email, she called the vandalism "something that should not happen."

Lt. Mike Monsrud said in an email Tuesday morning that grafitti "is not a significant problem in Fridley, but it is a problem that we encourage people to report so we can properly monitor the situation."

Monsrud said whether it's on public or private property, there is urgency about removing graffiti:

We do get periodic reports of graffiti around the city. When the graffiti is done to public property the city will remove the markings. When done to private property we strongly urge the resident to clean the graffiti as soon as possible. There are some people that do community service as part of their criminal sentencing who we sometimes use to clean the graffiti from people’s property if they grant us permission to do so.

"I am so bummed that this happened to our park and can’t understand why," Seefeld said in an email Tuesday morning.
