Fire in Kitchen Draws Five Fridley Rigs

A Friday night fire in the kitchen of a house at 6631 East River Road brought five Fridley Fire Department vehicles.

Everybody got out of the house safely, according to Walter Messer. He was one of 14 Fridley firefighters who arrived to find the stove on fire. It was already almost out as firefighters arrived before 8 p.m. and the firefighters finished it off, he said.

The cause of the blaze is unknown, Messer said, although it seems likely to have had something to do with cooking.

Fridley police and an Allina ambulance also responded to the scene.
