Charges: Instead of Apologizing, Student Attacked School Official

A complaint filed Tuesday charges a Fridley High School student with attacking a school official Monday after police escorted him to the offical's office to deliver an apology for earlier threats.

According to the criminal complaint charging Jackson Kenneth Graves, 18, with terroristic threats and fourth-degree assault:

On November 26, 2012 at approximately 1:00 p.m. law enforcement was asked to assist school staff with an out of control student. ... The defendant told police he wanted to apologize to [the school official] for his conductc earlier in the day. The defendant was escorted to see [the school official] in his office and instead of apologizing attacked [the school official] by punching him in the back of the head causing a large contusion.

Graves was booked into Anoka County Jail. Fridley Police Lt. Mike Monsrud added by email Thursday:

The staff member of the school sustained a large bump to the back of their head. The victim was treated at Unity hospital and released. The Fridley High School Resource Officer was present at the time of the assault and he took immediate action to stop the assault on the staff member. The Fridley School District and the Fridley Police Department are committed to keeping all Fridley Schools a safe place for both students and staff members.
