Cab, Car Crash at 57th and University

"Somebody missed a light," police said.

A taxi cab and a passenger car crashed at 57th and University avenues NE Wednesday morning. 

Fridley police said three people sustained minor injuries: one male in the taxi cab and two females in the car. Paramedics from Allina transported the car passengers from the scene in an ambulance. 

The front end of the taxi and the right side of the car sustained damage in the crash, which occurred at about 11 a.m. Wednesday. The taxi came to rest facing east in the westbound lanes of 57th Avenue, east of University Avenue. The car was in the grass on the northeast corner near the bus stop.

"Somebody missed a light," said Fridley Police Sgt. Rick Crestik, who added that 80 percent of crashes result from failure to yield. 

Schmit Towing had the intersection clear within 45 minutes.
