UPDATED: Person Survives Jump from Main Street Bridge onto I-694 in Fridley

Person who jumped from overpass onto interstate suffered "non-life-threatening" injuries.

Update (7:10 p.m. Saturday): Authorities expect a person who jumped from the Main Street NE overpass in Fridley onto westbound I-694 Saturday to live.

The person who jumped sustained "non-life-threatening injuries," according to Lt. Eric Roeske of the Minnesota State Patrol.

Roeske said the person was taken to a hospital. He did not have further information about the person or the incident, including whether a vehicle that appeared to have been towed from the scene was involved.

Update (5:50 p.m. Saturday): The Minnesota State Patrol has cleared the scene where a person jumped from the Main Street NE bridge in Fridley onto the westbound lanes of I-694.

Anoka Emergency Dispatch did not know the condition of the person who jumped. An ambulance was dispatched.

The State Patrol cleared the scene at about 5:15 p.m., according to MnDOT's highway incident webpage.

MnDOT camera images from around that time appear to show a tow truck taking a vehicle away from the left shoulder of the westbound lanes, just west of the Main Street NE overpass.

Anoka Emergency Dispatch first logged the incident at 4:43 p.m. When asked how authorities knew the person jumped, a dispatch spokesperson said she believed it was because there had been one or more witnesses.

Update (5:31 p.m. Saturday): Fridley police have cleared the scene on I-694 at Main Street NE where a person jumped from the overpass at 4:43 p.m. Saturday.

Fridley police cleared the scene at 5:12 p.m., according to the Anoka County Emergency Dispatch.

The Minnesota State Patrol also responded to the incident in the westbound lanes of I-694. A State Patrol spokesperson wasn't immediately available.

Original post (5:14 p.m. Saturday): A person jumped off the Main Street NE bridge over I-694 at 4:43 p.m. Saturday, according to Anoka County Emergency Dispatch.

The person's condition wasn't immediately available but an ambulance was dispatched.

The Minnesota State Patrol and Fridley Police Department responded.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation listed the incident as a hazard in the westbound lanes.

Traffic remained backed up east of Main Street NE in the westbound lanes 30 minutes after the incident.
