BNSF Conductor Gets $2.6M for 2011 Train Derailment

A jury unanimously awarded the money for emotional damage related to the incident.

A former Burlington Northern Santa Fe conductor a judgment of more than $2.6 million for the Fridley derailment two years ago, the Star Tribune reported Tuesday.

A Hennepin County jury decided unanimously after a two-week trial and four hours of deliberation to award conductor Sean M. Nelson the money for emotional damage.

The freight train derailed at a washed-out roadbed in Fridley in July 2011, spilling corn and diesel fuel into Rice Creek at Locke Lake.
