Aggravated Robbery Charge Leads Man to Anoka County Jail

Fight ensued after the suspect allegedly demanded the Little Canada man surrender all of his money.

A 22-year-old man is in custody at the Anoka County Jail following an attempted robbery Tuesday night in Fridley.
Charged with first-degree aggravated robbery is Tyjuan Lashawn Cunningham, no permanent address. Cunningham is also charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and reckless discharge of a firearm.
Fridley Lt. Mike Monsrud said police officers responded to a call shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday of two men fighting at the 5000 block of  E. River Road. When police arrived they found one man bleeding from the head.
Police surrounded the apartment building there and found Cunningham hiding in an utility room inside the apartment building,
Monsrud outlined, from police reports, the following story:
A  21-year-old Little Canada man drove to the Fridley apartments, responding to Craigslist ad  posted by Cunningham regarding a car for sale. When the prospective buyer showed up in his car, Cunningham jumped in the passenger's side of the car  and pointed a gun at him, demanding he turn over all of his money.
A scuffle between the two men ensued. In the course of the fight for the gun, a shot was fired and a bullet went through the roof of the vicim's car.
Two maintenance men from the apartment building came running to see what was happening. After the fight, Cunningham fled into the apartment building.  Police surrounded the apartment building and eventually apprehended Cunningham.
The vicitim, who had a cut on his head from the fight, drove himself to a St. Paul hospital, according to police.
Monsrud said the Anoka County Attorney's Office is expected to file formal charges on Thursday against Cunningham,  No information was available on possible bail.
