Men's Auxiliary Fridley VFW - Golf Benefit in honor of Minnesota Military Family Foundation

The 7th Annual Men’s Auxiliary Golf Benefit in honor of Minnesota Military Family Foundation is a golf outing to remember!

The Men’s Auxiliary of VFW Post 363 in Fridley has been creating, planning, improving, donating and volunteering their time over 9 years with the VFW.  They have their fingers in a lot of projects on ways to generate funds for many Veteran Organizations.  Being that they are a non-profit organization and 100% of ALL funds go to help veteran affairs, you can be rest assured that your money is well spent with all that they do.   Besides, when you come down to the VFW on the 4th Saturday of the month to have one of their fantastic Pork Tenderloin sandwiches…well, that’s worth the admission alone!

Their biggest event is held every year in June at the Victory Links Golf Course.  The golf benefit has been in honor of the MMFF for two years and this will be the third.  Most of us may be aware of how much planning and fund raising goes into a golf benefit to make it a success, but one thing the Men’s Auxiliary tries to do, is make it bigger and better every year!

With most of the members and volunteers working for a living, it’s hard to get out and do the networking, the donation requests, hole-sponsorships and even team sign ups.  Most of it is done by word of mouth and past year’s involvement.

Picking a day of the week and a time of the year is always tricky as well.  With so many folks going on vacations, people going to graduation parties, father’s day, memorial day, labor day, as well as a lot of people just can’t get a whole day off of work during the week days.  So the day is always on a Saturday and it’s the weekend after father’s day weekend.  This seems to be working out the best for most people.  Besides, the odds are with them when we are talking about nice Minnesota weather being warm and sunny with a few chances of rain or thunder storms.  Mother Nature has blessed this event and has had 6 out of 7 gorgeous days!  I’m thinking this year will be perfect as well.

Being that it’s an event that is dedicated with helping our veterans, past and present as well our active military and their families.  The Men’s Auxiliary has other special things going on during their special event.  The Blue Star Mothers, that have a chapter with the Fridley VFW, help out on the ‘Hole in One’ for a car hole.  They are given a way to help generate funds for their causes and the special things that they do.  They have been part of the event for three years now too.  This year they are giving a hole to the Junior Girls Unit to help raise some funds to send them out to the VFW National Convention in St. Louis, MO in July this year.  They have a chance to represent the VFW Fridley in the Poppy display competition.  They earned the right to bring their display there by winning both the VFW District and State competitions.  The display will be out at the course and it’s a site to see.  Besides the golf event itself, the banquet and awards ceremony is held at the VFW on Osborne and Central Ave afterwards.  This allows everyone to come to the VFW and support the social club and maybe stay for after hour entertainment.  In my mind, it’s a win/win for everyone!

The special guests that come and play every year speak on behalf of the MMFF and explain to the masses as to what the MMFF does.  Retired Brigadier General Joe Kelly is our highest ranking officer that will be there this year and he’s also a past board member.  Thomas Lyons is the host of the Minnesota Radio Hour on 1130am Sunday mornings at 7am.  He is also a board member and is the golf tournament chairman for the MMFF.  He is the MC of the closing ceremonies and he is a very well-spoken individual.  Besides many other active MN NG members that attend, Michael Farren from the Family Assistance Center comes out to play and he talks about the situations that our active military and their family go through when they may be in need.  It’s an awareness that we may not be familiar of and it’s nice to tie everything together so that we all know where are hard earned money that we donate goes towards.  And that’s to take care of our active Minnesota soldiers and their families when they are in need of assistance when they are overseas fighting for our freedom.

So being that this is an absolutely fun event, an event that supports a very worthy cause, I hope that you find it in your heart to help spread the word so that more people and supporters can help in their own way.

In fact we hope that you mark it in your calendar and come to the closing ceremonies at the VFW in Fridley to listen to the speakers.  Have you ever heard a General speak about the military?  It’s something else.  General Joe Kelly is a great speaker and I think you’ll enjoy him.

So, please come by your local VFW in Fridley and have some fun and hear about this worthy cause.  Besides, there are a lot of silent auction items to bid on!  Beverages to sip on!  Music to listen to!  And Military to ‘Thank’!

MMFF Northeast Golf Benefit in honor of Minnesota Military Family Foundation is being held on June 21st at Victory Links Golf Course.  Attached is the brochure and enjoy the photos from last year’s event!

    Hope to see you there!
