Homeless Youth in the NW Suburbs

Think Again Brooklyns will present a forum on Homeless Youth in the NW Suburbs on Tuesday, March 18 at the Brooklyn Park City Council Chambers, 5200 85th Avenue N.  Pizza and social time will be at 6 p.m., and the program will start at 6:30 p.m.

We usually think of homeless youth as a problem of the inner city, not the suburbs,  However, this is no longer the case.  In 2012, the Osseo School District which serves most of Brooklyn Park had over 500 homeless students.

Brooklyn Park Mayor Jeff Lunde will discuss the city's plans for helping homeless youth.  Jenny Gaard, Homeless Liaison, will give an overview of the Osseo School District's program .  Rev. Rachel Morey will explain Mosaic United Methodist Church's mission to help homeless teens and the approaches they have found helpful.  Terry Velasquez, Development Director for Avenues for Homeless Youth, will explain the organization's role in finding transitional housing and managing shelters for youth.  A "Q and A" will follow the speakers' presentations.

This forum is sponsored by Think Again MN; the Brooklyn Park, Osseo, Maple Grove, and Brooklyn Center Chapter of the League of Women Voters; and the Brooklyn Park Diversity Team.  For questions, please contact Carol Woehrer, 763-537-0816, carolwoehrer@usfamily.net
