Severe Thunderstorm Warning 'til 8 p.m. for Fridley and Anoka County

Update (7 p.m.): The severe thunderstorm warning is extended until 8 p.m. for Anoka County and northern Hennepin County.

AT 653 PM CDT...RADAR INDICATED A LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS... CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING WINDS OF 60 MPH. THESE STORMS WERE LOCATED ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM EAST BETHEL TO ANOKA TO HAMEL...AND MOVING EAST AT 35 MPH. NICKEL SIZE HAIL MAY ALSO ACCOMPANY THESE DAMAGING WINDS.

Original post (6:30 p.m.): Fridley is under a severe thunderstorm warning until 7 p.m. Saturday.

The National Weather Service issued the warning at 6:17 p.m. for Anoka and Hennepin Counties:

RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM...CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING WINDS OF 60 MPH. THIS STORM WAS LOCATED NEAR LORETTO...OR ABOUT 10 MILES WEST OF PLYMOUTH...AND MOVING NORTHEAST AT 35 MPH. NICKEL SIZE HAIL MAY ALSO ACCOMPANY THESE DAMAGING WINDS.

IF YOU ARE IN THE PATH OF THIS STORM...PREPARE IMMEDIATELY FOR DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH AND HAIL. SEEK SHELTER NOW INSIDE A STURDY STRUCTURE AND STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS. Thunderstorms produced golf ball size hail and wind gusts to 110 mph in Minnesota, between Fridley and Hugo. Fifty persons were injured. The hail and high winds destroyed fifty mobile homes, and a dozen aircraft, and also destroyed a third of the Brighton Elementary School.
