About 500 people attended the event on Eid Al-Fitr at the end of Ramadan.

Muslims from all over Minnesota traveled to Fridley earlier this month for an Eid carnival at Commons Park

Eid Al-Fitr, a day when Muslims celebrate the end of the month of Ramadan, fell on Aug. 19 this year. But two organizations—The American Muslims for Palestine—Minnesota Chapter and the Al-Aqsa Institute of Minnesota—decided to host a Eid carnival on Sept. 1, 2012, a couple of weeks after Eid, as a way for families to come out, celebrate, eat and have fun.

The event included freshly catered food (gyros, hot dogs, chicken shawarma, hamburgers), games (five bounce houses, a dunk tank and sack races), and henna and face painting. Some neighbors stopped by to check out the food and fun, according to Fridley resident Amina Maameri.

On Eid Al-Fitr, Muslims attend a morning prayer and then spend the day visiting with family and friends, "really having a good time," Maameri said in an email. "Eid is a day to relax after a month of fasting everyday from sunrise to sunset."
