Pedestrian Got Scare, Finger from Passing Car: Fridley Police Blotter

She was walking with her young child.

A complainant told police she was walking with her young child toward the business complex at 250 57th Avenue NE when a vehicle drove past very closely and without regard to them. She gave the driver a disapproving look; he gave her a middle finger. Police did not find the driver or vehicle but sent a traffic-violation letter to the vehicle's registered owner.

June 30:

  • Police found juveniles suspected of going through vehicles near the 6400 block of Fifth Street NE, but victim whose vechicle was missing CDs refused to press charges. Police cited juveniles for curfew violation and released them to a parent.
  • A 12-year-old was struck in the bike helmet four times by pellets that seemed to have been fired from a handgun-style gun outside Fridley High School.
  • Someone broke into the garage at Islands of Peace Park and stole items valued at $4,500.
  • After a male from an online chat room took up a female complainant on her invitation to come to her apartment in the 6500 block of E. River Road to do drugs and have sex, she took a nap and upon awakening found her laptop and iPod missing.

July 1:

  • Police told a male who said he was in town from Duluth looking for work not to beg and disrupt traffic at 81st and University avenues NE.
  • Police arrested and took to jail two men on suspicion of trespassing in the rail yard near the 4200 block of E. River Road.
  • Police found a male they suspected of kicking in the door of a residence in the 5700 block of Second Street NE. 
  • A Ford Focus that nearly struck a squad car at Central Avenue NE and Highway 65 turned out to have an 11-year-old runaway at the wheel. The driver was suicidal and was taken to the hospital; police completed a juvenile contact form, charging the child with driving without a valid license and careless driving.
  • A witness to a hit-and-run crash that caused damage to property at Osborne Road and University Avenue NE gave police the suspect license-plate number. Police contacted the vehicle's registered owner who reported his son had taken the vehicle without permission.

In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation, and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Incidents generally appear in the order in which they were reported, not necessarily the order in which they occurred.
