UPDATED: Fridley under Flash Flood Warning until 3:30 a.m. Monday

Storm watch through 1 a.m. Monday; flood watch through 7 a.m.

Update (10 p.m. Sunday): Fridley is included in a flash flood warning through 3:30 a.m. Monday.

The National Weather Service issued the warning at 9:46 p.m. Sunday:

AT 939 PM CDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAINFALL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP AND MOVE ACROSS THE WARNED AREA. DOPPLER RADAR RAINFALL RATES ARE RANGING FROM 1 TO 2 INCHES AN HOUR. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL THROUGH 6 AM MONDAY COULD EXCEED 2 INCHES IN SOME AREAS.

Fridley remains under a severe thunderstorm watch through 1 a.m. Monday. The National Weather Service has also issued a flood watch for areas along the Mississippi River, including Fridley.

Update (9 p.m. Sunday): A severe thunderstorm warning issued at 8:15 p.m. Sunday is over, but Fridley remains under a severe thunderstorm watch until 1 a.m. Monday and a flash flood watch until 7 a.m. Monday. Here is information from the National Weather Service:

THE STORM WHICH PROMPTED THE WARNING HAS MOVED OUT OF THE WARNED AREA...HOWEVER HEAVY RAIN IS STILL POSSIBLE WITH THIS THUNDERSTORM.

On Twitter, in response to a tweet asking for what Fridley people were seeing, Nina reported "strong winds and hail size of quarters melody manor area" of Fridley. And Sean saw "Small hail, medium to strong winds, flooding in parking lots."

Update (8 p.m. Sunday): Fridley, along with southern Anoka County, is included in a severe thunderstorm warning area through 8:30 p.m. Sunday:

AT 740 PM CDT...RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM...CAPABLE OF PRODUCING QUARTER SIZE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS OF 65 MPH. THIS STORM WAS LOCATED NEAR CHANHASSEN...OR ABOUT 14 MILES SOUTH OF PLYMOUTH...AND MOVING NORTHEAST AT 35 MPH.

Update (7:45 p.m. Sunday): In a "Special Weather Statement" for three counties including Anoka County, the National Weather Service announced at 7:35 p.m. that their radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm moving northeast out of the St. Paul area—so likely affecting more easterly parts of Anoka County than Fridley.

The severe thunderstorm watch and flash flood watch remain in effect for Fridley (see below).

Original post (6:20 p.m. Sunday): Fridley, Anoka County and many other Minnesota counties are under a severe thunderstorm watch and a flash flood watch.

The National Weather Service issued the severe thunderstorm watch at 6:10 p.m. Sunday. It remains in effect until 1 a.m. Monday.

The National Weather Service issued the flash flood watch at 4:26 p.m. Sunday. It remains in effect until 7 a.m. Monday.

The area rivers and streams are swollen due to the past heavy rainfall event and any additional heavy rain will runoff quickly and create flooding. Depending on the local terrain—flood prone or urban areas—some of the flooding could develop into flash flooding which is rapidly rising water in a short period of time.

Here is the National Weather Service's forecast for Fridley:

Sunday: Showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 64. South southwest wind between 7 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Memorial Day: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. West southwest wind 6 to 9 mph increasing to between 15 and 18 mph. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph.

Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 51. West southwest wind 15 to 18 mph decreasing to between 7 and 10 mph. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph.
