Updated: Fridley Seems to Escape 1-2 Punch of Storms and Outages

More than 150 in neighboring cities may be without power until 10 a.m Monday.

Updated (11:20 p.m. Tuesday): Storms Sunday night seem not to have caused many local power outages within Fridley.

At 11:20 p.m. Sunday, Xcel Energy's outage map shows:

  • 47 customers without power in Spring Lake Park
  • 72 in Mounds View
  • 8 in Columbia Heights
  • 16 in New Brighton

... but none in Fridley. Xcel's estimate for restoring power in those neighboring areas in 10 a.m. Monday.

Original post (6 p.m. Tuesday): Fridley and Anoka County are among the many parts of Minnesota under a severe thunderstorm watch through 10 p.m. Sunday.

The National Weather Service announced the watch at 3:05 p.m. Sunday.

The National Weather Service forecast for Sunday evening is:

Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1am. Some storms could be severe, with large hail and damaging winds. Low around 61. South southwest wind between 11 and 14 mph becoming light. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
