49er Days Seeks Local Restaurants for 'Taste of the Fridley Area'

The new feature of the annual festival would highlight food from local businesses.

The huge Taste of Minnesota festival may have bitten the dust, but Taste of the Fridley Area could come to 49er Days this summer.

The City of Fridley Parks and Recreation Department is gauging the interest of local restaurateurs in participating.

Six businesses would be enough to start Taste of the Fridley Area, said Parks and Recreation Director Jack Kirk, and three have already said they are interested. That leaves room for at least two or three more to launch the new attraction.

"We've had food at 49er Days," Kirk said, "but we wanted to get more local businesses involved." It's a chance, he said, for Fridley-area restaurants to "showcase their specialties."

Food vendors wouldn't necessarily need a truck to serve, Kirk said, but they would need to get all necessary permits from Anoka County.

Taste of the Fridley Area would be open for food service on Friday evening, June 24, and Saturday, June 25.
