Janitors Union Reports Reaching Tentative Agreement

SEIU Local 26 says three-year contract would give janitors pay raises, preserves full-time jobs. The janitors work in several Twin Cities including Fridley.

The bargaining committee for organized janitors, who work at office and institutional buildings across the Twin Cities, late this afternoon reached a tentative contract settlement with their employers, according to the workers' union.

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 26 said it had reached a three-year deal with the Minneapolis-St. Paul Contract Cleaners Association that includes pay raises, healthcare improvements and certain job security.

The deal came just after 4 p.m. today (Saturday) after more than 31 straight hours of bargaining, the union said in a press statement. Janitors still need to ratify the contract.
