Rumble In The Crumble: Pie-Baking Contest Coming to 49er Days

Local celebrities are among the entrants—and registration is still open.

The 2013 49er Days festival promises to be big. Carnival rides are returning, the schools are organizing an all-class reunion, a hot rod show, and a singing contest dubbed "Fridley Idol."

Now, add to that a pie-baking contest, sponsored by Financial One Credit union and judged by Baker's Square. According to an announcement from Financial One, at least 35 contestants have pre-registered for the June 29 contest, but battling bakers can still sign up the day of. Registration begins at 3:00, judging starts at 4:30 and the contest will end at 5:00.   The winner will receive a $1,000 grand prize, courtesy of the credit union.

Event organizers have roped in several local celebrities—YouTube star Luke Thompson has urged his followers to enter, and Anoka County commissioner Robyn West and Minneapolis Aquatennial Princess (and Fridley resident) Leah Kruc has entered, along with four of her family members.

Colette Kruc, mother of Leah Kruc and a fellow entrant was quoted in the announcement as saying, “we all really enjoy cooking and baking, and we have some have friendly competition going on.  We all hope one of the Krucs will win!”

So far, no one has let on what they'll be entering into the contest. If you were to enter, what pie would you bake?
