Open House draws artists, artists draw goats, as BLCA competes for preservation grant money.

The Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts, 6666 E. River Road, Fridley, is holding an open house Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 8 and 9, from noon to 4 p.m.

The public is invited to participate in hands-on activities such as drawing, painting or making a corn husk doll. There are period re-enactors to explain some of the history of the location, which has been an inn, tavern, post office and dairy farm during its long life.

The organization, housed in an historic 1847 building, is dedicated to encouraging established artists and developing new ones by providing classes and other opportunities for creative expression to persons of all skill levels in a variety of media.

A new exhibit of the center's members' art opened Oct. 7 and will be displayed through Nov. 5.

Another purpose of the open house is to encourage visitors to vote for Banfill-Locke to receive a share of $1 million in preservation grants to local historic places by the Partners in Preservation program. For more informaton and to vote, click here. Voting is open until Oct. 12.
