NBC Features Fridley YouTuber's Song

'Selfie Song' appeared on NBC's 'A Toast to 2013.'

Luke Thompson, alias Mippey5, is climbing the charts following a New Year’s highlight.

The YouTube star’s “Selfie Song” appeared on NBC's “A Toast to 2013.” Since then, the song has climbed to 134 on the iTunes comedy list as of Tuesday.

Thompson, of Fridley, hit it big on YouTube with "Minnesota Gurls"—a parody of Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” that’s had more than 2.5 million views so far. Since then, he’s had hundreds of thousands of views covering songs like Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe,” PSY’s “Gangnam Style” and Macklemore’s “Thrift Shop”—most of which feature Minnesota landmarks prominently.
