Springbrook Nature Center Awarded $10,000 Grant

Grant to be used for wetland education.

Xcel Energy has awarded a $10,000 grant to Springbrook Nature Center for its  wetland education program, according to Mike Maher, the director of the Fridley city preservation park.
The funds will help purchase water sampling equipment, canoes and technology that students will use to catalog data during classes, Springbrook officials said in a news release.

Each year, thousands of students participate in educational programs at Springbrook Nature Center, which is home to about 20 acres of wetland habitat and is located adjacent to the Mississippi River and several municipal water sources.

Maher said, " When students study wetlands first hand and make their own discoveries about the human impact on water quality and wildlife, it empowers them to take steps in their own lives to protect this valuable resource.  We are thankful to Xcel Energy for their commitment to environmental education.”
