How Is Fridley for Biking and Walking?

June 4-12 is Bike Walk Week.

We're in the middle of Twin Cities Bike Walk Week. Are you planning on pedaling or walking?

The City of Fridley is promoting Bike Walk Week as well as bicycling and walking in general as part of the Fridley Connects program, which included a Bike Walk study of the city.

If you're not a regular biker or walker, are you giving either activity a try for Bike Walk Week?

If you already bike or walk in Fridley, what are the best routes and trails? Where it is more of a challenge?

It's wherever you want it to be, we don't need trails and paths to do this. I suggest using mapmyrun.com which I use to figure out where (and how far) I will be doing my daily walk.

I am a roller skater and Fridley is great. Having access to a skateable trail (without having to drive to get there) is one of my main priorities! Just 1 block from my house I can pick up the trail behind the Target Distribution Center which connects to the Rice Creek Trail. Heading west on Rice Creek connects you to the Mississippi River Regional Trail Corridor. As of last summer, and very much looking forward to starting this summer, I have taken this trail all the way to downtown for work! (A lot of this route is on less-than-perfect sidewalks but it is still a great way to start my day.) And as a roller skater, I do prefer paths. Sidewalks can be tricky, you have to pay attention to all the cracks. Quiet residential streets are probably okay, but a nice smooth path is the best.

Katherine, that is so cool that you rollerskate to work downtown! And interesting to hear your perspective on paths vs. sidewalks and streets.
