How Did Anoka County Celebrate Christmas During the Civil War?

The Mississippi Library is hosting an event that offers attendees a historical look at the season.

What would a woman of the 1860s worn during Christmas celebrations? How would trees have been decorated? What gifts would have been exchanged?

Residents can learn the answers to these questions and more during a “Civil War Christmas” event at the Mississippi Library (410 Mississippi Street, Fridley).

A presented dressed in full 1860s fashion will tell stories from an Anoka-area perspective. Attendees will also get to listen to Christmas music and see how the holiday would have been celebrated during the difficult Civil War years.
