Highway 47 Lane Closures in Northeast Minneapolis Area Start Monday

Expect a week of traffic delays, say MnDOT officials.

Fridley motorists who drive through northeast Minneapolis beware: Starting Monday (Aug. 19),  there will be close to a week of lane closures and traffic shifts on Highway 47 for road constrution, according to the  Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) . 

"Starting at 7 a.m. Monday (Aug. 19) crews will close the southbound lanes of Highway 47 (University Avenue) between 3rd Avenue and 27th Avenue to pave the road.,'' according to a MnDOT news release. "Traffic will be restricted to a single lane in each direction on the northbound side of the road. 

"Once the work is complete, crews will shift traffic onto the newly paved road, and traffic will be restricted to a single lane in each direction on the southbound side of the road," MnDOT officials said.  "All lanes will re-open by the early evening Wednesday, Aug. 21.

On Saturday, Aug. 24.  traffic will be restricted to a single lane in each direction on one side of the highway between Central Avenue and 3rd Avenue and at the Hwy 47 and Broadway Street intersection as crews continue paving operations. The lanes will re-open by early Saturday evening. 

MnDOT officials said, "The Hwy 47 resurface project includes preserving the road pavement, making necessary drainage repairs, repairing curbs and gutters, and repairing pedestrian ramps. The project will provide a smoother road surface along the 2.17 miles of busy roadway."
