Get Ready: Highway 65 in Spring Lake Park Temporarily Closing Friday

Temporary closing will be another traffic headache for many Fridley motorists.

Fridley motorists, get ready for more traffic headaches: A stretch of Highway 65 in neighboring Spring Lake Park will temporarily close during this coming weekend for pedestrian bridge work.  

The Minnesota Department of Transporation (MnDOT) said Tuesday, "Motorists will experience delays on both directions of Highway 65 between Osborne Road N.E. and 81st Avenue N.E. as crews close the highway at 10 p.m., Friday, Aug. 23."

In a news release, MnDOT officials said,, "The full closure is necessary as crews paint the beams of the Spring Lake Park pedestrian bridge that spans the highway. Both directions of Hwy 65 will re-open at 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26.

Motorists may bypass the closed segment of roadway by utilizing the posted detour of Interstate 694 to I-35W.

The work is part of the Spring Lake Park pedestrian bridge renewal project. The bridge, which spans Highway 65 at 80th Avenue N.E., will undergo renovation and pedestrian accessibility upgrades."
