Fridley Drivers, More Work Coming Thursday on I-694 Project

For Fridley drivers, the traffic hassles with I-694 construction work are going to get worse before they get better.

With construction work continuing on stretches of Interstate 694, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) said the ramp from East River Road to the east-bound freeway will close early Thursday morning (July 25) for about a concrete repair, drainage and bridge deck work.

"The closure is needed for safety during concrete pavement repair, drainage and bridge deck replacement project on I-694 between Highway 100 in Brooklyn Center and Interstate 35W in Arden Hills," MnDOT officials said in a press statement. During the month-long ramp closure, traffic should use alternate routes or follow the signed detour, they added. .

MnDOT officials said long-term lane closures and ramp and loop closures continue on the project through early November.

Currently traffic is restricted to two lanes of traffic daily from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is a single lane in each direction each night from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning.
