For the Record: 49er Days Statistics and Victors

Fridley's summer festival produced a bumper crop of winners and participants.

Lost in the shutdown shuffle were some of the results from Fridley's 49er Days festival. Here is information from the city's Parks and Recreation Department.

There were more than 100 units in the parade this year. The winners of the float competition were: 1. Lino Lakes; 2. New Brighton; 3. Northeast Minneapolis.
 
Run for Fun
According to Bob Olsen of the Fridley/Columbia Heights Rotary Club, there were 79 runners in this year’s Run for Fun event. Winners were:
Boys/Men      
14 and younger: Tyler Eskro
15-29: Robert Kostik
30-49: David Wuggazer
50+:Brian Helm
 
Girls/Womens 
14 and younger: Katrina Mraz, Lauren Backstrom
15-29: Katie Morrissey
30-49: Kelly Faris
50+: Joni Luxem
 
Softball
There were 24 teams in the competitive division of the John Gargaro Softball Tournament and 12 teams in the community division. The top teams in the competitive Mens Class D division were: 
1st place: Northern Exposure
2nd place: S & S Softball
3rd place: Troy Scheunemann Cabinets
The winners in the community division was a team called “Nordeast.”

Sand Volleyball
There were four teams in the sand volleyball tournament. The winning team was Wisconsin-Hudson and the second place team was “the Volleys” from Plymouth. The tournament was coordinated by the Minnesota Recreation and Park Association.
 
Kids Day
The Kids Day event for 2011 had the largest number of participants we have seen for the Kids Day events. We had great feedback from people that it was an excellent family event. They liked the variety of events.  Events included:
·         Live pony rides (sponsored by LivInn Suites)
·         Trout fishing
·         Bird House making (Home Depot)
·         Climbing wall (Anoka County Parks)
·         Face painting
·         Rock Painting
·         SNC booth with live animals
·         Bookmark making (Anoka County Library)
·         Bracelet making
Other groups participating included…Anoka County 4H, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Banfill Locke Center for the Arts, Dist. 14 Early Childhood Family education, Fridley Key Club, Fridley Flames,  Anoka County Child and Teen check-ups
 
The “Taste of the Fridley Area” was a successful new event for the 49er days festival. There were five local restaurants that participated this year. The food booths were open Friday evening and throughout the day on Saturday. The local restaurants participating this year were as follows:
·         Shorewood
·         Two Stooges
·         Bob’s Produce Ranch
·         Cronies Pizzeria
·         Marino’s
 
Fridley Ambassador
The Miss Fridley Pageant changed its name and focus this year, moving from a Miss Fridley Scholarship Pageant to a Fridley Ambassador Scholarship pageant. Two recent high school graduates were named the Fridley Ambassadors. They are Leah Kruc and Deddeh Cooper.
 
Craft Show
There were approximately 40 crafters who participated in the craft show sponsored by the Fridley Women of Today. There was a nice variety of crafts in the show.
 
Seniors
There were 56 seniors who participated in a 500 card tournament and 56 others that participated in a cribbage tournament. A smaller number of seniors enjoyed a dance on Friday afternoon. (No barbeque this year.)
