Brockovich Investigator Talks about Legal Action against Polluters

Bob Bowcock raised the issue of cumulative pollution effects in Patch interview.

Erin Brockovich's environmental investigator talked about what's next for Fridley—including possible litigation against pollutors—in an interview Wednesday after  at .

"You've got multiple Superfund sites and multiple pathways—water, air and soil," Bob Bowcock said. "You say it's okay to drink up to 4-1/2 parts per billion of the TCE in the water but what about the 20,000 pounds released in the air?"

keep drinking the kool aid julie, it will help you, i promise. Why do you think Jason banned me from the site? i brought up a thread to him that talked about getting lawyers and sueing and he said i was rude or some crap and banned me under one account. selective reading you have or don't want to see whats in front of you. Again spouting more rhetoric " These companies are FORTUNE 100 companies that have done this " It amazes me how many scientists and dr.'s that are on the cluster, including yourself, that know that people have died from the tce. I have yet to see a death certificate listing tce as the cause of death.

George, in Jason's defense I don't think he's "doing it for the money", I have no reason to suspect this. I think it's telling he continues to "block" people from his group, but he has every right to do so. Respectfully, Erin Brockovich is running a business. Her model is to pursue large corporations for monetary compensation, her platform just happens to be the enviornnment. The fact that Fridley has five Superfund sites, would naturally be a (very good) potenial business lead. This is not a critisism about her character, nor is it intended to show opposition about this issue. But I do like to be intelligent about my information, and this means understanding the "big picture" about all my sources.

Most likely when I die, my death certificate will say "end stage emphysema" and not the cause of it..which is Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.....why? because doctors don't know to look for it or even know what it is. Most likely there's no death certificate that says TCE because they didn't know to look for it; it shouldn't be found in a person anyways. Not everyone is going to agree on these issues of course, but it's still important that tact and good social skills are used to be able to see and hear all sides of any issue. Agreeing to disagree goes a long ways.

I think George is right. I see no other reason Ms. Brockovich would be in town other than the potential for her to make money. And if there is no monetary incentive driving the cluster group than I assume none of them will have any interest in the litigation or possible class action lawsuit that may come. Environmental crusader is a nice cover. And calling it a business model to sue deep pockets knowing it is cheaper for them to settle than litigate is a bit generous. People should review the actual facts from the PG&E case that made her famous and then they won't be surprised when after all is said and done that Ms. Brockovich might have a larger bank account but they still don't have any of the answers they are supposedly looking for.

No one said anything about Erin ideas about litigation; I was referring to Jason and the Fridley Cancer Cluster group, that's never been discussed nor has it ever been a motivating factor; that is who George was speaking of. I don't know how serious they (Erin/Bob) are about litigation other than the vague comments made by Bob. I can't and won't speak for them; I haven't discussed this with them personally so it would be erroneous to even say that they are or aren't.
