Free Screening for Kids at Fall Resource Festival

Metro Therapy Special Children’s Clinic will conduct free screenings for parents and their children Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. at their Fridley location during their Annual Fall Resource Festival. Metro Therapy specializes in autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, anxiety and learning disorder diagnoses and therapy in children. “Children’s brains develop more than 90-percent in the first five years,” according to Tim Sullivan, Director of Metro. Recognizing problems at an early age drastically reduces the therapy needed to correct them. 

Screenings will be conducted to make parents aware of potential problems with speech and sensory needs of their kids. Other organization will be on hand to make parents aware of other resources available, including Anoka County Social and Mental Education,  Yoga Therapy Works,  Pathways Stables, Helena Family Services, MacPhail Center for Music, Lee Carlson Center, EPIC Karate, Allina Health (Mercy & United Hospital), Hummingbird Natural Health, Maubs'L Service, Behavior Therapy Solutions  and Qudoba.

Eight therapists will be available to conduct the free screenings that involve parent and child and take about ten minutes. Entertaining activities will also be conducted including face painting, pumpkin painting, guided yoga, sensory games, a duck pond and raffle. “Parents often don’t know what to look for in early child development, “ according to Sullivan, “Here’s a chance to recognize problems that could plague a child for life if undiagnosed.”
